This lecture from American Indian Movement co-director Ward Churchill focuses on the Pine Ridge incident in the '70s that led to the jailing of the famous political prisoner Leonard Peltier on murder charges. Churchill discusses everything that led up to the incident. On the first disc he talks about the state of Native Americans today, how they live on the richest land in America as part of the reservation system, but yet are the poorest people in the country. Ward Churchill is an American Indian activist who takes his cause directly to the people. In a Pig's Eye is a talk given by Churchill on the campus of the New College of California in San Francisco. The piece focuses on the plight of Leonard Peltier, imprisoned for the murder of two FBI agents during an uprising on the Pine Ridge Reservation in the 1970s. There were no witnesses, another man confessed to the crime, yet Peltier remains in Leavenworth Prison. Ward Churchill Keetoowah Cherokee is professor of American Indian Studies and chair of the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of ColoradoBoulder.
