Album

Truth is the debut album by Jeff Beck, released in 1968 in the United Kingdom on Columbia Records and in the United States on Epic Records. It introduced the talents of his backing band the Jeff Beck Group, specifically Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood, to a larger audience, and peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200. After leaving the Yardbirds in late 1966, Jeff Beck had released three commercial singles, two in 1967 featuring himself on lead vocals, and one without vocals in 1968. All had been hits on. All the players fit together perfectly, in a musical sense, and the sound and vibe they created was thrilling, as heard on June 1969's Beck-Ola. Jeff Beck left the Yardbirds in late 1966, following the release of their groundbreaking single, Happenings Ten Years Time Ago. After a pair of pop-oriented singles, Hi Ho Silver Lining and Tallyman in early 1967, Beck tried to assemble a dream team of sorts. After various line-up changes, the final lineup of Ronnie Wood on bass, drummer Mi. Next to Hendrix, Clapton, and Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck stands as something of an underdog in the pantheon of guitar gods. But these early solo efforts, now reissued by Epic, remain classics of the quirkiest kind. On 1968s Truth we hear a 23-year-old Rod Stewart wailing the blues, giving Robert Plant a run for his money. And we hear Beck displaying some of the most sonically radical guitar work of the era. The affinity with Jimmy Page is quite striking. Recorded in 1969, the Jeff Beck Group's second album, Beck-Ola, was apparently hurriedly put together in a rush to cash in on the success of their debut, The Truth. If it was then it doesn't show. Featuring the proto heavy metal sound guitarist Beck was developing, with the effortless vocals of a young Rod Stewart, bass of Ronnie Wood, organ of Nicky Hopkins and drums of Tony Newman, this is a classic album
